After the channel-dash breakthrough "Gneisenau" suffers from a direct-hit
by a bomb on 13th of February 1942 and is put out of action. On the 27th of March 1945, the "Gneisenau" was used as a block ship at the entrance of Gothenhafen harbour and was sank by torpedoes from German E-boats.
